Japan invades the Philippines via Uniqlo

Japanese clothing brand Uniqlo invaded the Philippines to setup it’s flagship store in the country on Friday, June 15, 2012.  The Philippines is the 12th country outside Japan chosen by the fashion brand to open their nth store.

Throngs of eager shoppers lined up hours before the store officially opened it’s doors in the SM Mall of Asia.  Reports say that people were already waiting for the store to open in as early as 4:30 am!

The Uniqlo store in the SM Mall of Asia is the first of around 50 more stores expected to be rolled out by the fashion brand in the country for the next 3 years.

Katsumi Kubota, chief operating officer, Fast Retailing Philippines, said: “This is a challenging number but at the pace we are growing globally now, this is achievable. The Philippine market is quite important for us as it will open the window for the Asian market. We want to be number one in Asia but we want to be number one in each country in Asia. So wherever we are not present yet, we plan to be there. ”

The SM Mall of Asia flagship store is said to boost the clothing company’s expansion plan in the region and is believed to strengthen its proposed plan to expand further in South East Asia.
