FPJ finally gets his much deserved National Artist recognition, 6 years after it was first awarded to him in 2006.
Philippine President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III presents “da king” with a posthumous National Artist award via Proclamation No. 435. This confirms FPJ as the recipient of the much coveted National Artist award last 2006.
“Pursuant to the authority vested in me by law, I Benigno S. Aquino III, President of the Philippines, do hereby confirm the declaration of Ronald Allan K. Poe a.k.a. Fernando Poe Jr. (Posthumous) as National Artist as conferred in Proclamation No. 1069, dated May 23, 2006.”
The late FPJ had previously been named as National Artist in 2006 but his wife , movie queen Susan Roces refused the award out of spite for then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
FPJ and GMA were bitter rivals in the hotly contested 2004 Philippine election with GMA being declared the winner amidst report of rampant vote-buying and electoral fraud.
The family of the late actor only agreed to accept the award after PNoy was elected as President in 2010.
FPJ died of “thrombosis with multiple organ failure.” in 2004, 7 months after the Presidential election.
