American Idol retains Randy Jackson as judge

Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj, Randy Jackson and Mariah Carey

Randy Jackson will remain as a judge on American Idol.

Although it was thought that the music producer—who has been on the panel of the show since it began—would take on the role of a “mentor” behind the scenes for the upcoming season, he has agreed a deal with Fox to stay on as a judge after negotiations with Enrique Iglesias fell though, according to Deadline.

Appearing to confirm the news, his former co-star Simon Cowell tweeted: “Just heard Randy is back on Idol. Right decision.”

Randy will join Mariah Carey on the four person panel which is also expected to feature Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj.

Mariah is not thought to be a fan of Nicki’s, although producers are delighted at the prospect of conflict between them both.

Instead, the “Fantasy” hitmaker is said to be keen for Lenny Kravitz to sign up to the show.

A source said recently: “Mariah would love to have her dear friend Lenny Kravitz sit next to her on the American Idol judge panel. She thinks he would be the perfect choice because he is extremely talented and knows music inside and out.”

Artista Academy: The Grand Cut

Marvelous Alejo, Nicole Estrada, Alberto Bruno, and Stephanie-Rowe

In one of the most shocking elimination night ever, TV5’s reality artista search cuts 4 students all in one night!

Alberto Bruno, Marvelous Alejo, Nicole Estrada and Stephanie Rowe got the biggest shock of their lives when all four of them were axed unceremoniously.

The decision was made after the four failed to make the grade necessary to stay alive in the competition.

The biggest shocker has to be Marvelous Alejo, an early fan favorite. The other three must have seen it coming.  Alberto, Stephanie and even Nicole had been lagging behind every live exams with Alberto making a perennial trip to the bottom 3 week after week.

All is not lost for the foursome as Wilma Galvante, Artista Acedemy principal announced that eliminated students will form a group called Tropang Kickout and will be given one production number in upcoming Live Exams.

The battle for the 20 million grand prize intensifies as the remaining 8 students will not only go head to head after each other, they will also have to face the wrath of Tropang Kickout.

Artista Academy airs weeknights at 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. on TV5.

X-Factor Philippines: Kedebon Colim falls

Kedebon Colim eliminated!

It’s elimination time once again for popular Kapamilya reality TV show, X-Factor Philippines and tonight’s episode was bitter-sweet.

After performing OPM hits from bands Rivermaya and Eraserheads, the remaining 6 contestants took to the stage to learn their fate.

Host KC Concepcion announced the first 4 contestants that will make up next week’s Top 5 and they are:

Allen Sta Maria

Jeric Medina

Gabriel Maturan

KZ Tandingan

That leaves perennial bottom 2 dweller Daddy’s Home and -gasps- Kedebon Colim!

After the break, KC asked the judges who they want sent home and predictably, Pilita Corrales and Gary Valenciano agreed to send Kedebon home.

Kedebon’s mentor, Martin Nievera’ turn came up and after lifting the Cebuano lad with kind words  proceeded to vote Kedebon out too.

He then went up to the stage and gave his fallen mentee a big hug.

Kedebon’s first outing in the bottom 2 turned out to be his last.  This came a couple of weeks too late.  He should have gone home sooner!

With Kedebon’s exit, the real battle continues next week and boy it sure is going to be a tough one.  The remaining 5 contestants are all good so it would be doubly hard to see each of them go.

We wish Kedebon the best of luck but no love lost there.  His time is up and he should just be thankful he made it to Top 6 when better singers went home weeks ahead of him, remember Mark Mabasa and Joan Da?

X-Factor Philippines: KZ Tandingan and Gabriel Maturan sizzles, Kedebon fizzles

X-Factor Philippines: Top 6 Performs hits from Rivermaya and Eraserheads

X-Factor Philippines’ remaining 6 contestants once again took to the stage for the 7th Live Performance night of the hit Kapamilya reality TV show.

Daddy’s Home opened the night with their own take of the Rivermaya classic ‘Himala’.  Good but we’ve heard them sing better.

Gabriel Maturan went next and he belted another Rivermaya classic ‘Hinahanap-hanap Kita’ and exuded sexiness and quiet confidence.  One of the night’s best performance.

It looks like Jeric Medina is being marketed as a potential singing heartthrob.  He took on yet another Rivermaya song, 214 (Am I Real) and spent his time serenading the ladies in the audience. His performance is tolerable at best.

KZ Tandingan was considered by everyone as the one to beat and showed just that.  She sang ‘Kisapmata’ with a different arrangement and performed like a pro.  She is the second contestant to perform flawlessly that night.

Kedebon Colim, performed ‘Toyang’ and by God is this guy awful or what.  He spent time working the stage and the audience but not on his notes.  The result? Another gag-inducing performance that’s sure to earn him more votes.  Geez!

Last but not the least (that’s Kedebon), Allen Sta. Maria closed the show with ‘With A Smile’ that allowed her to showcase her winsome personality and vocal range.  I’m just not sure if that was enough to gain her enough support.

Tomorrow, the Top 5 will be revealed.  Who goes home? My guess would be Daddy’s Home with Allen Sta Maria joining them in the bottom 2.

X-Factor Philippines: Pilita Corrales ends mentor role

Pilita Corrales

Pilita Corrales officially ended her role as a mentor after losing her last act, Joan Da.

Joan exited the competition last week after landing in the bottom two for the third time.  Allen Sta Maria, one of Charice’s last two acts joined Joan in the bottom two.

Charice and Pilita both voted for their respective acts but fellow mentor/judges Martin Nievera and Gary Valenciano voted for Allen to stay effectively eliminating Joan.

Gary Valenciano explains his decision to vote for Allen saying that Joan “sang a song,”  while Allen “sang for her life.”

Joan joins her fellow Team Pilita contestants Mark Mabasa and Modesto Taran in the sidelights.

The competition is now down to its last six contestants namely:

1. Daddy’s Home

2. KZ Tandingan

3. Allen Sta Maria

4. Jeric Medina

5. Gabriel Maturan

6. Kedebon Colim

Khloe Kardashian: Keeping Up with The X-Factor?

Khloe Kardashian: X-Factor Host?

TV reality star Khloe Kardashian is in the running to become a host of “The X Factor,” the singing contest’s creator Simon Cowell said on Tuesday.

Cowell told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres that Kardashian, 28, one of the three adult sisters of the wealthy California socialite family, was one of many people who had auditioned for the role, and had impressed him.

“It could be a Kardashian. I think that would work,” he said, adding that “we have to find people who have a great chemistry, but Khloe is definitely up there in running.” Cowell spoke on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Tuesday.

Khloe Kardashian rose to fame in reality show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” and its spin-offs, but is often overshadowed by her more outgoing sister, Kim. She is married to basketball player Lamar Odom and was recently in the news over the couple’s efforts to have a baby.

Cowell fired the original host of “The X Factor” – British TV personality Steve Jones – in January, along with judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, after a disappointing first season on U.S. television.

Britney Spears and former Disney Channel singer Demi Lovato make their debut as new judges on Wednesday when the show returns with early audition rounds filmed in the summer.

Cowell has said he would like two hosts – preferably with little experience – to take the helm when the singing contest starts its live broadcasts in October.
