“The Voice” Philippines Intensifies

"The Voice" Philippines Premiere Telecast

“The Voice” Philippines Premiere Telecast

ABS-CBN launches the highly anticipated Philippine franchise of the “The Voice” via a primer aired last Sunday and its premiere telecast aired today, June 15.  As expected, almost all of the Philippines tuned in to tonight’s episode with netizens bombarding micro-blogging site Twitter with various reactions.

The singing competition hosted by Toni Gonzaga with sister Alex and ex PBB Teens housemate, Robi Domingo managed to keep viewers on their seat.  The biggest draw for the show however, will be coming from the show’s judges/coaches/mentors: Pop Princess, Sarah Geronimo, Tony Award Winner, Leah Salonga, Black-Eyes Peas member Apl de Ap, and rock icon, Bamboo.

The four judges started screening the first batch for the Blind Auditions.  The highlight of tonight’s show was when Thor Dulay’s rendition of the Whitney Houston classic “I Have Nothing” convinced all four judges to turn their chairs his way.  In the end, the 32-year old backup singer chose Apl de Ap.

Gerald Anderson “not ready” to talk about Sarah Geronimo

Gerald Anderson

Hunky Kapamilya star Gerald Anderson is not yet ready to talk about the status of him courting the Pop Princess, Sarah Geronimo.

Gerald good-naturedly, yet firmly pleaded not to be asked about the most recent surrounding him supposedly “giving up” in wooing the pretty multi-media superstar.

“Huwag muna ang isyu, today ang celebration, e. Huwag muna ‘yan.” “Please, not that issue, today’s the celebration, let’s not talk about that yet”

The celebration Gerald referred to was the recent basketball championship of Star Magic Games last July 29 in Quezon City.

“There’s always another time for that. Today’s not the right time,” he pleaded with a smile.

Gerald promised that he will answer everything after he comes back from his one-week vacation in Egypt with his father and his younger brother.

Gerald also hopes to visit Israel to reconnect with his spiritual side.

Gerald left for Egypt last July 30, Monday.

Gerald Anderson gives up on Sarah Geronimo

Sarah Geronimo

Mommy Divine and Daddy Delfin, proud parents of the Pop Princess Sarah Geronimo guested on Sarah G Live! yesterday, July 29.

In this rare guesting in line with the pop superstar’s month-long birthday celebration, both Mommy Divine and Sarah herself answered the nagging question that hounded the young singer as of late: Has Gerald Anderson given up on courting Sarah?

In a portion of Sarah’s musical-variety show with Ai-Ai delas Alas acting as an interviewer, Mommy Divine gave her piece regarding the question.

“Kami nga ni Daddy [Delfin] ang nagbigay ng permiso na ligawan siya [Sarah] sa bahay. “We both gave him permission to court Sarah at home.”

“Kinausap namin talaga siya [Gerald] nang pormal at sabi ko, sa bahay lang puwede ligawan ang anak ko, hindi sa labas o sa text.” “We formally talked to him and told him that he can only court our daughter at home, not outside or through text.”

“Sabi ko, ‘Kung mapapasensiyahan mo ang patakaran naman namin, ganito kami, nirerespeto ka namin, pero sana respetuhin mo rin kami. Kasi babae ang anak ko.” “I  told him ‘ I hope you can respect our policy, we respect you and hopefully you’ll respect us too because our daughter is a girl”’

“Ewan ko lang kung dapat sabihin pero mukhang…” “I don’t know if I should say this but it seems like…” “Pero parang hindi niya mapagtiyagaan ang ganun…” “But it looks like he is unable to do that…”

Wala.” “Truth be told, it wasn’t my mom that made Gerald stop, no one did.”

Mommy Divine re-assured her daughter that she will find the right guy for her, to which an already weeping Sarah answered:

“Hindi naman ako nagmamadali, Ma, muntik lang.”“I’m in no hurry, mom, just almost.”

In a separate interview, Gerald pleaded not to press him about the controversy surrounding him and Sarah and instead gave a very short reply.

“Okay naman ako.” “I’m okay.”

An awkwardly cute Sarah G. Live

Gerald Anderson and Sarah Geronimo

Tonight’s airing of Sarah G, Live brought much anticipation with the guesting of Pambansang Babe, Gerald Anderson!

But before that, Sarah treated the live audience with an electrifying tribute to her music idol, Michael Jackson.  The Popstar sang a medley of Jackson’s greatest hits prompting an outburst of applause from the appreciative audience.

Then came the big moment, and for all the energy Sarah gave out during her opening number, she could well be venting out all that pent-up excitement or frustration.

Luis Manzano, Sarah’s co-host, had the two go through what can only be described as the corniest sit-down interview ever.  Sarah and Gerald looked ill-at-ease and downright uncomfortable but showed great professionalism by completing the painfully annoying segment without walking out.

Before the interview ended though, Gerald said this to Sarah and left everyone buzzing:

“Time lost may never be found again.”

In the end, what the fans may have wanted said, the two may have confirmed through actions, with Sarah closing the show with a heart-warming number, hand intertwined with her babe.
